Round, OLED and Character Display Modules for Smart Home and Appliances
Appliance displays are a cost line and a design line at the same time. A round 1.28" panel behind a knob reads as a premium product; a 16x2 character module behind a window costs a fraction of it and does the same job on a washing machine. We build both, plus the small colour TFT and OLED parts in between, so the display can follow the product tier instead of forcing it.
Model, size and rating figures on this page are read directly from the specifications of our published models - the same numbers appear on each product page. Of the 188 models in our current production list, 16 are tagged internally for this application; the 42 below are the ones with a full English specification published so far.
What this application actually demands
| Requirement | Why it decides the design | What we build |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per unit | Appliance volumes make a one-dollar difference a programme-level number. | Character and segment parts at the low end, round IPS and colour TFT at the premium end |
| Shape | A round panel behind a knob is a design decision, not a technical one. | 1.28" and 3.4" circular TFT with optional capacitive touch |
| Front panel look | Black-on-clear or backlit white changes the perceived tier. | Multi-colour backlights on character modules; VATN segment for a black front |
| Temperature | Displays next to ovens, compressors and steam. | -20 °C to +70 °C standard; storage to +80 °C - tell us the local ambient, not the room's |
| Lifetime | An appliance runs for a decade, not two years. | LED backlight lifetime typically 40,000 hours on published parts |
Models that fit
Selection rule: round panels, OLED and character modules of any size, plus colour TFT parts of 3.5" and under. Nothing else is filtered - if a published model meets that rule it is in this table, and you can check it against the specification on the product page. Values are typical at 25 °C.

Three things that go wrong
Written from the enquiries we have to correct most often.
Putting a colour panel where a character module would do
If the display shows a programme name and a countdown, a 16x2 or 20x4 character module with a coloured backlight does it for a fraction of the cost and needs almost no firmware. Save the colour TFT for products where the screen is part of the sell.
Ignoring the thermal environment
Ovens, dishwashers and steam appliances put the display in a hotter and wetter place than the spec sheet imagines. Published parts are rated to +70 °C operating and +80 °C storage - measure at the display position, not at the control board.
Designing a rectangular UI for a round panel
The glass behind a round window is usually square, but only the circle is visible. Cropping an existing rectangular layout wastes most of the usable area; design for the circle from the first sketch and confirm the visible diameter against the bezel opening before tooling.
What we can change - and what we cannot
Changed on a catalogue panel
FPC length, pin order and exit direction; connector type; backlight brightness and colour; touch panel and cover glass; driver IC selection within what the glass supports; PCBA and firmware on smart serial modules. These start at 100 pcs and do not need new glass tooling.
Needs new tooling
A new glass size or shape, a custom segment layout, a new touch sensor pattern. Tooling MOQ is 1,000 pcs and we quote the tooling cost separately so you can see what is one-off and what is per-piece.
What we will not claim
We do not quote a panel we cannot build to your temperature, brightness and lifetime figures at the same time. If one of the three has to give, we say which one before you order samples rather than after.
Commercial terms
Sample 5 pcs in 10-15 days; production 100 pcs in 10-20 days. EXW, FOB Shenzhen, CIF. T/T, L/C, PayPal. Packed as anti-static bag + foam tray + export carton.

10 modelsSmart Home & Appliances displays - questions
Do you make round displays for knobs and dials?
Yes - 1.28" and 3.4" circular TFT panels, with capacitive touch available on both. The visible circle and the bezel opening should be confirmed against the mechanical drawing before tooling, because the glass behind the window is square.
What is the cheapest display for a basic appliance?
A character module (16x2, 20x2 or 20x4) with a single-colour backlight, or a custom segment glass if the volume justifies tooling. Both are far cheaper than a colour TFT and need far less processing on the host side.
Can the backlight colour match our brand?
On character and segment modules, yes - white, blue, yellow-green, orange and red are standard options and other colours are quoted per project. On colour TFT the backlight is white by design and the UI carries the brand colour instead.
How long does the backlight last?
Published parts specify around 40,000 hours of LED backlight lifetime, which is the point at which brightness has fallen to half. Running the backlight below full drive extends that considerably, which is worth doing on an always-on appliance display.
What are the MOQ and lead time for appliance volumes?
100 pcs for catalogue models, 1,000 pcs where glass or touch is tooled. Lead time 10-20 days. For annual appliance programmes we schedule call-off batches rather than quoting each order separately - ask for that when you enquire.
Need a quote or a datasheet?
Send us size, resolution, interface and annual quantity. Our engineers reply within one working day. Sample MOQ 5 pcs, lead time 10-20 days.
