UART Serial (Smart) LCD Display Modules
A UART / smart serial module carries its own controller and command set. Instead of streaming pixels, the host sends instructions - “show this value in this field” - over as few as two or three wires, and the module renders the screen itself. It is the display equivalent of a printer: you send text, not a bitmap.
Only 5 UART Serial models are published with a full specification so far - UART Serial is a standard interface option across the categories linked below, and we develop around 120 new models a year. Send your size and resolution rather than assuming it is not available.
Best fit
Best for hosts with no display controller and limited firmware budget - a small MCU driving a colour gauge, meter or BMS front panel without writing a graphics stack. It is the interface used across our smart serial category, including modules built for BMS protocols.

When UART Serial is not the right choice
Not the right choice when the UI is complex or changes fast - animation, video or a densely custom layout is either impossible or slow over a command protocol. If the host already has a display controller (RGB, LVDS or MIPI) or an SPI/MCU-capable MCU and the firmware budget to draw the screen itself, a bare panel is usually cheaper per unit.

What protocol do your UART modules speak?
A command set supplied with the module for setting text, values and simple graphics over UART; parts built for BMS protocols follow the specific command set of that protocol. Send us the value set or protocol document you need to support and we will confirm compatibility before samples.
How fast can a UART module update?
Fast enough for a gauge, counter or status field - it is not built for full-screen animation. If your UI needs to redraw quickly and completely, a bare panel on SPI, MCU or RGB with your own firmware will out-perform a command-driven module.
Do UART modules need a display controller on my MCU?
No - that is the point of this interface. The module has its own controller; your MCU only needs a spare UART and enough firmware to send commands.
